The Current Season I Am In pt. 1

It’s been a minute since I’ve updated my blog, but trust me, a LOT has happened in the meantime.

The last time I blogged was at the very beginning of 2023. Back then, I was a photo editor for Getty Images with plenty of free time due to my fully remote, per diem schedule. To fill my days and earn a bit more, I picked up a local administrative assistant gig—pretty boring if you ask me. But the silver lining was that I was saving money, working from home, and tackling the post-grad blues one day at a time.

During my hiatus from the blog, I gained a lot of perspective on life. One thing I’ve learned for sure is that with time, I’ve come to appreciate everything more deeply. To be able to see so much of the world through mundane things like the seasons change or a night out has become a skill of mine. I think this comes from a lot of reflecting on what really matters to me mixed with getting older (even though I’m currently 23).

Now, about my move to Los Angeles…

If you know me, you know this move wasn’t out of the blue. It was more a matter of when than if. Summer ‘23 was the perfect time to move across the country, and I couldn’t have asked for a smoother transition. Here’s how it went down: By the time I moved, I was still technically employed by Getty Images as an editor, but bookings were getting sparse. So, productivity-wise, I wasn’t working much. This meant I had to rely on my savings to get through the first few months in a new city. But if there’s one thing true about me, it’s that I thrive in the face of challenges. Spoiler alert: I got a new job within three weeks of moving to LA.

Moving to Los Angeles also allowed me to check off a major bucket list item: driving across the country. Back in undergrad, I loved the 13-hour drive between Jersey and Atlanta whenever it was time to head back to Morehouse, and I couldn’t wait to travel coast to coast. At the end of July, I flew to North Carolina at 5 a.m., packed up a car, and drove across the southern part of the country to my new home.
